As always, this past year has been a wild time for the untethered. #singlelife
Thus, I present to you, without further ado, the top 10 moments in dating from the past 12 months.
Two dates in, a guy I had hit it off with nicely asked me to go to Houston...in a month and a half. And bought me a gift. And wanted to hang out both Friday & Sunday of that week.
Going out on a date with a man named Stoney Stone. I am completely serious!
On a recent dinner outing, after our first meeting (coffee), my date wanted to run a scenario by me. This is how it went:
Him: "So there's this girl, she's a friend, that I hang out with a lot. Often, it'll just be us at one of our places. My friends think I should have a conversation with her, what do you think?"
Me: "Um, are you trying to tell me you have a friends with benefits situation?"
Him: "Oh, no! Not at all. I think because we'll like watch movies or hang out alone, they're getting this idea."
Me: "Do you WANT it to be something more?"
Him: "No..." (but the kind of no that sounds like something should follow...)
Me: "Does SHE want it to be something more?"
Him: "No...I don't know..."
The peanut butter guy. If you aren't aware of this one, check out my earlier post here.
I did meet one potential suitor IRL! And we ended the night with limbo. The actual game. Get your heads out of the gutter. It didn't last much beyond this, but it's nice to know it can still happen.
The man who left me a voice memo to ask me on a date/talk me out of going on a date simultaneously. Because "we had different interests/hobbies." When I asked him further about this, since we had at the least discussed a mutual love of animals and outdoor activities, he said "well you like cats more than dogs and I'm a dog person, and you run and I bike." (I also bike, for the record)
Recent date who talked about playing college baseball (D3) several times. He was my age (38). Do the math on when college was, lol.
Recent date who talked about his boss' family several times. He would also text me large paragraphs at a time, often about things that were unrelated to the other parts of our conversation. When it was clear I wasn't interested, he sent me the 'break it off' text saying that our communication styles didn't line up. You're right buddy, they sure don't.
As you'd imagine, most of the dates involve grabbing a drink, but I also did: a jazz club, a concert, a speakeasy, two-stepping, two walks, trivia, and a Juiceland meetup, to name some of the more creative options. What will 2025 bring?
I did not meet any Bradleys. We did not have a lot of luck with this name in 2023.
Next year, my focus is going to be on meeting people in person, as I'm not sure I can take Hinge any more. I'll keep you posted on my progress, and if you have any ideas, please let me know!
